I&H Brown Win Two Battery Storage Projects in Norwich with EDF Renewables

We are delighted to report that we have secured our latest tender win with EDF Renewables UK & Ireland, this time to work on the Norwich BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) project. The contract involves the design and construction of 2 separate BESS developments, at the same 7-hectare (ha) location South of Norwich between Dunston and Swainthorpe. The BESS development has a capacity of 114MW.

The project will allow energy to be stored like any normal battery, meaning that the energy is not lost or rejected, making better use of the green energy produced. Sustainability is at the heart of this project with EDF Renewables, the battery compound will only take up 1.2 hectares of the 7 hectare site with plans to increase the biodiversity of the surrounding land.

Initially the team are working to develop the design under a Technical Services Agreement. This is to ensure the most efficient platform, road, hardstand and foundation design for the specific type of batteries is developed, as we progress towards the main contract.

The team are on site now, having begun works in April 2025 with a 24-week programme. We are delivering all enabling works to accommodate the circa 200 battery units to be installed on site. I & H Brown will also be carrying out the Principal Contractor role during the sites PC2 period.
