Cala, South Queensferry

We are delighted to announce that we have won an £11.4m contract to deliver the infrastructure at the major Builyeon Road Development at South Queensferry for Cala Homes.

The masterplan for the 44-hectare development includes 980 homes, a new primary school, a care home, and commercial units which will include a food store, restaurants, and a filling station.

Scope of works will include bulk earthworks of circa 330,000m3 along with the lime modification and improvement to fill materials of 110,000m3. These engineered fill platforms will raise levels on parts of the site up to 5.5m and there is a surplus of 65,000m3 to be removed from the site. We will also be constructing a new spine road which includes drainage that will ultimately become an upgrade realignment for the existing Builyeon Road to the north of the site. Works began on 3rd May and will run for 44 weeks.

There are several key risks which need to be mitigated. Given the current climate, there are challenges with the sourcing of materials, plant and labour which will have to be closely controlled by the site team. There are also overhead cables that we will need to work around until they are re-routed away from site. Good summer weather will be key to ensuring the modification of soils goes to plan.

This project has been a long time in the making and involved extensive community engagement. I & H Brown are extremely pleased and excited to be part of this project which will not only help Cala Homes realise their vision for the site but will provide much needed homes and community facilities for South Queensferry.
