I & H Brown Secure Contract to Upgrade the Flichity Bridge

We are delighted to announce that we have secured a Contract with SSE Renewables to expand and upgrade the existing Flichity Bridge. The bridge is a public road bridge located on the B851 in Brin, 18km South of Inverness, and spans over a small tributary of the River Nairn.

At present, the existing bridge has a traditional design, and does not have the capacity to accommodate the required construction traffic for SSE’s proposed Aberarder Wind Farm.

A new culvert is to be constructed in two phases. The first phase will provide improved temporary alignment, followed by the second phase incorporating the permanent alignment and structural capacity to the road at Flichity Bridge. The existing masonry bridge will be demolished once the temporary first phase culvert is in place.

There are substantial key challenges for this project including a constrained works area which results in significant temporary works being required. A further constraint is working within close proximity to an existing overhead power line. Environmental risks include potential for significant flows of water and affecting salmon spawning.
