This contract is to oversee the infrastructure required for a mixed-use development across the site, which has planning for around 1400 houses. Our scope of works involves the installation of all items of critical infrastructure including 15km of foul, surface, and rising main deep drainage installations, 100,000m3 of earthworks, and 25km of new services. Key Challenges.

This project involved deep drainage installations, some in excess of 10m in depth within a carriageway that was to remain live at all times due to it being the sole HGV access to the Edinburgh Airport Cargo Terminal. To accomplish this, a bespoke Traffic Management Plan was developed that outlined the sections of works to be undertaken, temporary works requirements, and proposed traffic management arrangements.

We employed a highways-sector-scheme approved traffic management contractor to design, install, and maintain all systems that evolved daily. Guided auger directional drilling techniques were utilised for the installation of a 400m length of 450mm diameter pipe, carrying the main surface water outfall for the development to its discharge point.

Our Solution.

Undertaking major works on an urban area where traffic volumes are often heavy, has required optimal implementation of strategically designed traffic management systems to protect our workforce and the travelling public. Working with all stakeholders, specialists, and our own experienced staff and operatives, we have been able to undertake these operations safely with minimal delays to the travelling public.
