We are looking for an experienced Welder to join our Plant Department. Your role will involve carrying out high-quality welding, fabrication, and repair work on company-owned and managed heavy civil engineering plant, machinery, and HGVs. The role supports the safe, reliable operation of plant and vehicles, both in the depot and on operational sites.

key responsibilities
• Undertake welding and fabrication repairs on heavy plant, attachments, and HGV components
• Carry out structural repairs to buckets, blades, chassis, bodywork, and ancillary equipment
• Perform MIG, MMA (stick), and/or TIG welding as required (depending on job)
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and repair instructions
• Work closely with Fitters and the Plant Manager to plan and prioritise repairs
• Carry out on-site welding and repair works when required
• Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets required quality and safety standards
• Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections to confirm integrity and fitness for use
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in a safe and serviceable condition
• Complete job sheets, defect reports, and maintenance records accurately
• Comply with all health & safety legislation, risk assessments, method statements, and company policies
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop and work area
• Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably ascribed to the post from time to time
Skill, knowledge, and experiences
Essential:
• Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator in a heavy engineering, plant, or HGV environment
• Competence in MIG and MMA welding (TIG desirable)
• Experience working with structural steel and heavy-gauge materials
• Ability to work from drawings or carry out repairs based on inspection and experience
• Strong awareness of health & safety requirements
• Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
• Recognised welding qualifications or coded welder certification
• Experience working on construction or civil engineering plant and attachments
• Mobile/on-site welding experience
• Experience in cutting, grinding, gouging, and fabrication work
