The Quality Lead oversees the development, implementation and improvement of the company’s quality management approach across all civil engineering activities. In addition to providing project-level assurance, the role plays a key part in reviewing, maintaining and updating business processes to ensure the organisation’s Quality Management System fully supports the strategic direction of the business.

key responsibilities

• Review, develop, enhance and maintain the ISO 9001-aligned QMS, ensuring it reflects current industry standards and business strategy.
• Lead structured reviews of existing quality-related processes, procedures and workflows. Rewrite to improve and align with strategic objectives and industry requirements.
• Work with the senior management team to ensure quality processes support business growth, framework delivery models, digital transformation and operational priorities.
• Prepare and review Project Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and assurance deliverables for civil engineering projects.
• Conduct audits, inspections and surveillance to verify compliance.
• Lead NCR identification, root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation, ensuring lessons learned feed into updated processes.
• Liaise with clients, designers and subcontractors to resolve quality issues and maintain transparent communication.
• Ensure quality records, test certificates, inspection reports and handover documentation are complete, accurate and stored correctly.
• Identify trends and improvement opportunities across projects and embed them into revised processes and business-wide systems.
• To be aware of all Company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures, and management systems. To ensure their application as they relate to your areas of responsibility.
• Attend training and development activities as required.
• Undertake any such duties which may be ascribed to the role (from time to time).

Skill, knowledge, and experiences

• ISO 9001 expertise, with proven experience implementing, auditing and improving quality management systems.
• Demonstrable experience reviewing, rewriting and business processes within a construction or civil engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of the construction industry is essential; civil engineering delivery is preferred.
• Experience preparing and managing project quality plans, inspection & test plans, non-conformance reports and handover documentation.
• Competence in common data environment platforms such as Viewpoint, BIM 360 or ProjectWise.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret specifications, drawings, test data and quality records.
• Internal auditor qualification for ISO 9001 is desirable.
• CSCS card and relevant SHEQ training are preferred.
• Collaborative approach, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and influence positive change.
• High attention to detail.
• Proactive, organised and able to manage multiple priorities across live projects and business improvement initiatives.
• Confident in challenging and driving continuous improvement.
