ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISOR

We are seeking an Environmental Advisor to support the delivery of our civil engineering, energy, renewables, and infrastructure projects across the UK. Working closely with project teams, you will provide practical environmental guidance, undertake site inspections, monitor compliance, and help ensure projects are delivered in line with environmental legislation, company standards, and client requirements.

As an Environmental Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of environmentally responsible construction across a diverse range of civil engineering, energy, renewables, and infrastructure projects. You will work closely with site and project teams to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, consents, and company procedures, while promoting high standards of environmental performance across all operations. Your role will involve regular site inspections, developing and maintaining environmental management plans, supporting incident investigations, and providing practical advice and training to project teams. You will also liaise with external stakeholders such as clients, regulators, and local authorities to ensure environmental obligations are met and best practice is consistently applied. key responsibilities

  • Carrying out regular site inspections and audits, identifying risks, and providing practical advice
  • Supporting site teams with ecological matters, including pre-construction inspections
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, and consent conditions
  • Preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans and site-specific controls
  • Supporting pollution prevention, ecology, archaeology, and nuisance management on-site
  • Liaising with regulators and stakeholders, including SEPA and NatureScot
  • Supporting the investigation of environmental incidents and identifying improvements
  • Delivering toolbox talks and providing guidance to improve environmental awareness
  • Supporting environmental input into tenders, including risks, constraints, and opportunities

Skill, knowledge, and experiences

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant environmental experience
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
  • Experience in an environmental role within construction or civil engineering
  • A good understanding of environmental legislation in Scotland and the UK
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, and supporting incident investigations
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and support site teams
  • A proactive approach and the ability to manage your own workload
