We are looking for an experienced Fitter to join our Plant Department. This role will involve providing a high standard of maintenance, inspection, servicing, and repair of company-owned and managed commercial vehicles and contractors’ plant, ensuring all equipment is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose. Work may be carried out at the depot or on operational sites.

key responsibilities
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, and repairs on plant, machinery, and commercial vehicles
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
• Conduct inspections and safety checks in line with company procedures, manufacturer guidance, and legal requirements
• Ensure all plant and vehicles are maintained to a high standard of safety, reliability, and cleanliness
• Complete accurate maintenance records, defect reports, and job sheets
• Liaise with the Plant Manager regarding faults, parts requirements, and maintenance priorities
• Support site teams by attending breakdowns and carrying out on-site repairs when required
• Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, company policies, and safe systems of work
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop areas in a safe and orderly condition
• Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably ascribed to the post from time to time
Skill, knowledge, and experiences
Essential:
• Proven experience as a Plant Fitter, HGV Fitter, or similar role
• Strong mechanical knowledge of plant, machinery, and/or commercial vehicles
• Ability to diagnose faults and work independently
• Good understanding of health & safety requirements
• Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
• Relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
• Experience working on construction or civil engineering plant
• Welding, hydraulic, or electrical fault-finding experience
