DESIGN COORDINATOR

We are looking for an experienced Design Coordinator to join our civil engineering team. You’ll play an important role in guiding all design aspects of projects, helping shape solutions from tender stage through to construction. Your work will involve assessing risk and mitigation strategies, developing practical solutions, and managing external consultants to design both temporary and permanent works solutions across a broad range of civil engineering sectors, from renewable energy, energy infrastructure, civils infrastructure, and earthworks. You’ll also assist operational teams with procedures and design reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements. This is a broad, hands-on role suitable for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.

key responsibilities

  • Leading the design aspects of tenders and live projects
    Reviewing and interpreting civil and structural design information—including drawings, specifications, calculations, and surveys—to advise on buildable solutions, foundation strategies, structural configurations, and temporary works requirements. Assessing proposed design schemes, performance specifications, and engineering assumptions developed by the client’s team, and advising on their practicality, constructability, and compliance with site conditions and project requirements.
    Identifying alternative value engineering design solutions that provide benefits either from a buildability, cost, programme or risk perspective
    Preparing and reviewing design reports, calculations, and technical documentation
    Scoping, coordinating, and interpreting site investigations
    Carry out the roles of design coordinator and temporary works coordinator on specific projects
    Liaise with Client and Designers at Tender and Construction Phases, including monitoring and reporting of design progress
    Prepare project design briefs
    Supporting design reviews and buildability assessments
    Providing design-related input to site teams throughout construction
    Liaising with clients, designers, consultants, laboratories, sub-contractors, and internal teams
    Contributing to bid submissions, technical proposals, and project methodologies

Skill, knowledge, and experiences

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar
    Strong civil engineering experience in contractor or consultancy environments
    Technical knowledge of earthworks, foundations, ground modelling, slope stability, temporary works, structures, civil engineering infrastructure and ground improvement
    Ability to interpret ground investigation data
    Experience working on large earthworks and infrastructure projects
    Strong communication and coordination skills
    Ability to influence design decisions and support project teams

Desirable:

  • Chartered or working toward CEng/CGeol
    Experience in design-and-build contracting
