I&H Brown Achieves Negative Carbon Footprint

I&H Brown has been measuring and reporting its carbon footprint since 2008. As a socially responsible organisation, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and have pledged to limit our contribution to climate change by managing and counteracting our greenhouse gas emissions. We are proud to report that for the 2023 to 2024 reporting period our overall carbon emissions were carbon negative.

The result was mainly due to a reduction in the diesel consumption associated with the construction plant on our projects. However, diesel consumption still represents 90% of our carbon emissions. Looking forward, we continue to explore the use of low carbon HVO fuels with our clients for use on our projects.

We also saw the benefits of switching many of construction sites power sources from diesel generators to more efficient hybrid generators and grid connections to mains electricity, which provides a much lower carbon source of electricity.

The type of projects we work on depends on the needs of our clients and has a direct effect on our carbon emissions, our carbon intensity (the measure of our carbon footprint versus our turnover) has also continued to fall.

The company’s carbon offset is thanks to its continued investment in out Kingie Estate which contains over 600 hectares of managed woodlands. Achieving this carbon negative result is testament to the company’s diverse interests and assets from a sustainability standpoint!
