Following on from the successful delivery of the Eccles Substation Platform project, I & H Brown are thrilled to announce that we have secured the contract with SP Energy Networks (SPEN) for the construction of the civils element of the Eccles Hybrid Synchronous Compensator project.
We commenced the main works in July 2024. The scope consists of the construction of 355 individual concrete bases comprising a mixture of in-situ and precast, which has an environmental benefit. Installation of precast cable troughs and site cable ducting. Delivery of site access roads for construction traffic. Construction of a modest control building to house the two Hybrid Synchronous Compensators, and completion of stone upfill to the platform including the final chipping layer.
The existing Eccles Substation, West of Coldstream in the Borders was originally constructed in the mid-1990s and forms a key part of SPEN’s electricity network. The major extension project is required to reinforce the transmission network and connect proposed renewable energy developments to the electricity transmission network. This is as electricity demand increases as the UK replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy.
This latest project award is testament to our continued strong relationship with SPEN and our broad skillset. It also showcases our dedication to achieving excellence in every project we undertake in the energy sector.
