We are substantially through our 4th phase of major earthworks at the fantastic Blindwells Development in East Lothian, for our valued client Hargreaves Services plc. Following project commencement in February 2024, our Civil Engineering Division are carrying out the latest contract of earthworks surcharging to enable the next phase of residential development, along with future commercial and retail amenities.
This earthworks phase involved the forming of another large 10m high surcharge mound. This involved an earthworks move of just under 1 million cubic meters of material. We have undertaken further earthworks on the site during this phase totally over 300,000 cubic meters. The surcharging works will enable a major new phase of housing on the site.
We are also undertaking HEIC(High Energy Impact Compaction) works of over 150,000 cubic meters of material. This method will ensure the development ground will not settle and achieves the strength required for new housing, roads and the commercial area.
This phase of work has encompassed the new High Street and shopping area. It is incredible to consider, that when we first broke ground at Blindwells in April 2018, it was an open field. We have since delivered enabling works for hundreds of houses, a school and a town centre, we have delivered many kilometres of drainage infrastructure, roads, the Princes Loch, footpaths and soft landscaping. It is fantastic to see this development take shape.
Well done to all involved in this major phase of work including our project team, our supply chain and the client team. It has been a big team effort!
