Westfield

We have commenced our latest project for repeat client, Hargreaves Land at their flagship Westfield Development site in Fife.

Westfield, once one of Europe’s largest opencast coal mines is today one of Scotland’s largest brownfield sites at over 1000 acres. The land which is on the outskirts of Kinglassie, Fife was secured by Hargreaves Land in 2013 following the collapse of Scottish Coal.

Our scope of works on this innovative project, includes earthworks and major infrastructure works such as road, utilities, and remediation to enable the first phase of 45 acres of land for development. I & H Brown have huge experience of dealing with former mining sites having own, operated and decommissioned our own open cast coal sites and having worked across a number of other former mining sites on behalf of our clients.

The long-term plan for the regeneration of this site is to create a hub for sustainable employment, recycling, and green-energy technologies. Construction is already underway to build an energy from waste plant on the site with a battery storage facility earmarked next. This development is one of Fife’s most ambitious investment projects, which will create employment opportunities now and, in the future, whilst supporting the local community and economy. We are very proud to be playing our part to bring this vision to a reality.
